Playland Air Ride

Playland Air Ride

The planes in this Air Ride hang at the bottom of about five feet of toothpicks glued together, end to end. The ride stands over 5-feet high and as you watch it go, you can almost sense the thrill of riding on it. It is part of the "Playland" carnival Burke built in the 1970’s

Look closely at the base of the Air Ride and you can see four platforms for loading passengers on each of the four planes at the same time. Notice the restrooms behind the ride. Who knows? After this thrilling ride, a rider may need to stop there!

Toothpick Fantasy Air Ride

Toothpick Fantasy Air Ride

This Air Ride comes from a miniature toothpick carnival named "Toothpick Fantasy". which was built much earlier than Playland and is much smaller. This ride has four platforms for loading riders just like its Playland counterpart above and it has a small fence around a wide area to keep other carnival-goers from being hit by the fast-flying planes. The Toothpick Fantasy carnival can be seen at Musee Mecanique museum on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. You can also see video of this ride in action by going to the videos page and clicking on the "Musee Mecanique - Toothpick Fantasy" photograph.
